Professional Development

Conferences, workshops and seminars that build research capacity, supporting researchers at every career stage.

The association serves as a resource for the professional growth of its members, offering conferences, workshops and seminars that help members stay abreast of the latest developments and methodologies in their field.

The programme focuses on building research capacity among scholars and researchers, engaging in activities that promote knowledge and enhance research skills, including training on grant writing, research ethics, data management, project management and other aspects of the research lifecycle. The goal is to support researchers at all career stages and improve the overall quality and impact of research.

It is designed to introduce undergraduate students to the education research field, provide postdoctoral fellowships that support research experiences in academic and non-academic careers, and help graduate students and early career scholars develop a research agenda and begin their careers.

The IARSA Forum

The Forum is a gathering of higher education professionals working in institutional research, assessment, planning and related postsecondary education fields, with professional development courses and workshops held in conjunction with the Annual Conference.

Pre-conference and post-conference education provides expanded formats to accommodate boot camps, interactive workshops and symposia around the Forum.

Virtual learning

The association uses online tools and platforms to facilitate research activities, education and collaboration, often involving remote access to resources and expertise. This encompasses online courses, virtual research centres, and digital tools for data collection, analysis and dissemination.

Virtual Research Learning provides an online space for young researchers, early career and advanced scholars, practitioners and others in the education research community to enhance, expand or refresh their research skills through professional development and research capacity-building training.

Virtual workshops offer an intensive, short-term professional development experience, introducing the skills needed for a strong data-informed decision culture and the foundational knowledge in each area of concentration.

Mentoring, capacity building and workshops

The association plays a crucial role in mentoring and capacity building by providing guidance and support to individuals, helping them develop the skills and knowledge to achieve their goals. This is a valuable tool for professional development and organizational growth, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration, and includes activities for young researchers and early career scholars through institutes on specific research topics and educational issues.

Workshops are interactive, focused events where people gather to learn, problem-solve or create something new through active participation and collaboration, involving hands-on activities, discussions and practical exercises, aiming for a deeper understanding or the development of specific skills.
