Senior Member

An advanced grade recognising professionals of extensive experience, significant achievement and proven technical maturity — the highest grade to which a member may directly apply. Held by roughly the top eight per cent of the membership.

The Senior Member grade is the highest membership grade for which a member may apply directly on the strength of professional experience. It recognises professionals with extensive experience, significant career achievements and proven technical maturity.

Candidates may be nominated, invited, or propose themselves. All three routes require the support of three existing Senior Members, and admission is by an election conducted by the Elections Committee. Candidates may be researchers, scholars, academics, scientists, educators, technical executives or originators in any field of study.

Eligibility

  • An established career with significant contributions to research
  • Election by the Elections Committee
  • The support of three existing Senior Members
  • Generally ten or more years of professional practice in the field
  • Documented significant performance — impactful publications, patents or technical leadership

How to apply

  1. Nomination, invitation or self-proposal — each requiring the support of three existing Senior Members.
  2. Election conducted by the Elections Committee.
