The Fellowship Committee was established in 2022 to oversee the nomination and selection of Fellows. It solicits nominations, reviews the recommendations and qualifications of all candidates for election to Fellowship, and considers appeals against the rejection of candidates for advancement. It reviews and approves the recommended nominees submitted by members and submits them to the Council for election.
The committee assists the College of Fellows in recognizing members who, in its opinion, meet the qualifications for admission to the College. It determines whether the work of each candidate is recognized and considered outstanding in the association's field of interest, provides a succinct statement of each candidate's qualifications for a Fellow grade, and rates their contributions relative to those of existing Fellows. The chair is responsible for merging the evaluators' input into a coherent whole, reaching consensus on the ranking of candidates, and making the final decision on the content of the evaluation forms.
Mandate
To recommend individuals actively engaged in education research with distinguished scholarly achievements, excellent academic records and intellectual excellence, who have evidenced unusual and outstanding contributions to public service or science research. Evidence must be associated with a record of accomplishment, in science and research, education and training, clinical applications or administration, that demonstrates national or international impact on the practice.
Mission
- To receive and adjudicate nominations for Fellowship in the association each year
- To assign ratings to those nominated, so the Council can make an informed decision on who is elected
- To assist participants with an extraordinary record of accomplishment through the Fellows nomination process
Main responsibilities
- Review nominations of individuals who meet the established criteria and have provided the proper documentation, and recommend recipients of the Fellowship Award to the Governing Council
- Undertake an annual review of the ongoing professional contribution of recipients, and an annual confirmation of their employment status, to determine continued eligibility for the Fellowship each year for up to five years
- Review the list of Fellows biennially
- Consider and recommend to the Council members deserving of fellowships
- Recommend to the Council on the awarding of Honorary Fellowships, and the names of non-Fellows who should be considered for an association award
Disclosure
Conflicts of interest are managed in an open and transparent manner. Members disclose potential conflicts before the confirmation and award selection processes begin, and take whatever measures are appropriate to ensure confidence in the Fellowship Award is maintained. The disclosure, and the measures taken, are recorded.
