Research Ambassadors

A worldwide network of senior academics and scientists who represent and promote the association — expanding its footprint through publicity, events and collaboration in their region.

The Board of Directors has established a worldwide network of IARSA Research Ambassadors to promote and represent the association. Ambassadors are senior academics and scientists with a long-standing relationship with education, research and administration.

Ambassadors help enthuse and inform others about the opportunities to conduct research, receive project funding, and begin collaborative projects with colleagues at institutions worldwide. They are chosen for their creativity, initiative and independence, as well as for their connection with their academic community.

What Research Ambassadors do

  • Contact departmental chairs and senior administrators to share information about study and research opportunities in their country, including IARSA grants and other funding programmes
  • Arrange an informational meeting on campus each academic year for students in their department and for prospective applicants
  • Advise and support students and researchers interested in pursuing academic activity in their country or region
  • Explore opportunities to expand the association's footprint through publicity, events and work with universities, research bodies, think tanks and NGOs

Selection criteria

  • Knowledge of, and connection to, key actors in the international, national and regional research and education field
  • Knowledge of IARSA, and of IARSA in the country or region
  • Knowledge of current gaps and opportunities
  • An understanding of key target groups
  • Willingness to develop a five-year plan with clear outcomes
  • Evidence of personal initiative and creativity in thinking through pathways and solutions

How to apply

  1. Complete a short application form and agree to the ambassador policy.
  2. Send a proposal to the Board of Directors setting out a creative approach to promoting IARSA in your country or region, including ways to expand its membership.
  3. Include the names and email addresses of two references from the country or region who can vouch for your suitability.
  4. Applications are screened by a Board panel and considered on an ongoing basis.

Terms of the post

  • Ambassadors serve for five-year periods and are answerable to the Board of Directors.
  • They submit a bi-annual report to the Board and maintain regular contact with the IARSA Secretariat.
  • Ambassadors are listed on the association's website with their photographs and biographies, and their activities are featured in the newsletter.
  • This is a voluntary post with no compensation. IARSA reimburses agreed expenses for promotional materials and for refreshments at meetings or informational events on request.
