Distinguished Faculty
A designation recognising members who are outstanding lecturers, researchers or exemplary professionals — called upon as expert consultants by universities, research organisations, industry and government.
The Distinguished Faculty designation is not an honorary award for service to IARSA, nor a lifetime achievement award. It recognises the outstanding expertise members bring to the body of knowledge that professional research education requires, and the importance of holding both theoretical and practical knowledge to practise as a professional researcher.
It creates a faculty, recognised by IARSA, whose members can be called upon by universities, hospitals, not-for-profit research organisations, industry and government laboratories, and administrative authorities.
What the designation recognises
- Outstanding lecturers and teachers
- Outstanding researchers, and exemplary professionals in the research field
- Members who have published theoretical and practical contributions in professional, scholarly and peer-reviewed journals
What Distinguished Faculty are called upon to do
- Serve as expert consultants presenting professional workshops, educational courses and professional development programmes
- Instruct for-credit educational courses or programmes — MPA, MBA, PhD and others
- Conduct external, periodic and professional reviews of research administration capacity and processes within institutions, at that institution's request
Qualifications
- Membership of IARSA in good standing, with dues current as a full or retired member
- A minimum of ten years' experience in research and administration at a university or other post-secondary institution, hospital, not-for-profit research organisation, or industry or government research laboratory
- Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge in research and administration, documented by degree, accreditation or job function
- Recognition by other scholars and practitioners as a subject-matter expert, evidenced by at least three of: honours in the field; published scholarly or trade work; original content developed and presented internally or externally; teaching, designing or directing courses; consulting to outside organisations; mentoring in the field
Expectations of Distinguished Faculty
- Adhere to the standard of behaviour set out in the IARSA Code of Ethics
- Participate in a range of IARSA programmes and events each year — designing programme content, or facilitating workshops, seminars and webinars
- Serve as a committee member or chair
- Serve as an ambassador at annual, section, chapter and themed meetings
- Mentor other members on request
- Maintain a documented history of superior performance as a presenter and subject-matter expert
- Support the association when unanticipated or critical situations arise
