HND to B.Sc.

Top-up degrees are for those who have successfully completed a Higher National Diploma (HND) and want to study further and progress onto the final year of an honours degree programme.

The HND to B.Sc. conversion programme run by the association's partner universities helps HND graduates and recognized professional certificate holders upgrade their certificate to a B.Sc.

There are a number of benefits in topping up your current qualification to an honours degree, and it may open up further opportunities in the future. By completing the top-up course you help to demonstrate to an employer that you have the academic, organisational and management skills needed for your chosen career path.

Who the programme suits

  • HND holders with a lower credit or a pass
  • Graduates who want to change to another related or different course
  • Graduates of polytechnics, who are not trained as teachers, and can use this programme to change to an education line
  • University graduates with a third class or a pass, who want to chase a better grade

Duration

The indicative study duration of a top-up degree at the partner universities is 12 months of part-time study, delivered through distance learning or online modes. The fully online and part-time courses require a recommended 5 to 8 hours of study per week, per module. Students are also able to complete their studies faster than the indicative course duration by doubling up on modules at certain times, though minimum study durations do apply.

Admission procedures

  1. A completed application form, submitted with a non-refundable fee of GH₵85.
  2. Credit passes in five Ordinary Level subjects in the Senior School Certificate Education, West African School Certificate Education or General Certificate of Education, or their equivalent, including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects. Ordinary Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and professional qualifications from recognized polytechnics, universities and professional bodies are accepted respectively.
  3. Two letters of reference affirming the applicant's potential for scholarly, investigative and creative endeavours.
  4. Submit official transcripts from previous colleges and universities.
  5. Provide four current colour passport size photographs.
  6. A statement of educational objectives, specific focus of research, and programme and career goals. Optional.
